If you want to be able to actually speak, there is no way around it – you need to APPROACH the language ACTIVELY.

Forming sentences on your own is very different from passive reading and listening.

When you form your sentences, you obviously need a relevant feedback – either from your friend or a tutor.

You can also use our dynamic interactive sentences – for instance HERE, on the day 7 of our DAY BY DAY learning program.

Sentences are in English, so that you can try to translate them.

After you translated the sentence you CLICK on it to hear AUDIO and see the MANDARIN VERSION.

After you tried it on your own, the correct version of the sentence is much more likely to stay in your memory – especially if you give it some extra time to memorise it and review within 24 hours.

多少 /duōshǎo/ HOW MUCH, HOW MANY

多少 /duōshǎo/ HOW MUCH, HOW MANY

___ __ _

Many words in Mandarin are created either by combining synonyms or by combining antonyms. This is the second case.

We think the etymology of this word goes something like this:

People were asking for instance – ARE THERE MANY PEOPLE? or ARE THERE FEW PEOPLE? – so in fact HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE THERE?

THOUGHTS SHAPE REALITY

____ ___ __ _

We have been raised in a materialistic culture.
We believe that mind is a result of our biological parts and processes.
We think of ourselves in terms of software and hardware, just as if we were machines.

Maybe there is a reason why we are so massively brainwashed with this materialistic ideology.

People who know what they can accomplish when they gradually learn how to make their dreams come true are much more self-confident and they usually don’t end up as someone else’s slaves.

Our thoughts co-shape the world around us. We are the co-creators of our lives.

Our dying world needs massive awakening of fine and decent people, who won’t forget that power has a straight connection to responsibility.

It is up to you!

Hi guys, I just found that there is this decent audio function in Tumblr, so I will give you a sample of podcasts that are an essential part of a DAY BY DAY learning program.

This is DAY 9 – where I show you two basic functions of 要 /yào/.

DAY BY DAY is carefully structured and is full of animations and dynamic flashcards and sentences to make your learning more immersive and fun.

It is still in beta and you won’t get awards yet – but even without it it is already – I believe – very useful.

Have a nice day!

When you learn new words, learn them in CONNEC…

When you learn new words, learn them in CONNECTIONS – you will remember much more!

Mandarin is ideal for that.

Take the word 发 /fā/ TO SEND for instance…

Sending something out is an activity – that’s why 发 /fā/ is a very pro-active word that we find in other positive (or neutral) words, such as:

发现 /fāxiàn/ TO FIND OUT

发生 /fāshēng/ TO HAPPEN

发财 /fācái/ TO GET RICH

发展 /fāzhǎn/ GROWTH

… these are just few examples.
